Year 4 News - Mrs Bruni
In year four this term we have embraced opportunities to consolidate our math understanding of fractions and regrouping operations in particular. Impressively, a number of students have taken advantage of before-class math instruction and have been exploring concrete fraction materials to deepen their understanding of the link between fractions and decimals. We have dived into Grow Your Mind in our study of health and are learning about parts of the brain that help us make decisions and regulate emotions. In HASS, we consolidated our understanding of early exploration and spent one afternoon studying and drawing items from nature as the botanist Joseph Banks would have done. We have learned about the art techniques of Alma Thomas and are currently working on designing aircraft in the style of Leonardo da Vinci. This art project links into our study of physics, which began with paper plane design and testing the flight paths. We are looking forward to independently researching the role of First Nations soldiers in WW1 from the Australian War Memorial Site as the culmination of a picture book we investigated titled Dreaming Soldiers.
