St Patrick
St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17th March. St. Patrick is best known as the patron saint of Ireland. He lived during the fifth century and is largely responsible for the conversion of the nation of Ireland to Christianity. St. Patrick was captured by Irish raiders when he was about 16, and taken as a slave to Ireland where he lived for six years as a shepherd before escaping and returning to his home.
When St. Patrick returned to Ireland, he was able to use his knowledge of Irish culture that he gained during his years of captivity. Using the traditions and symbols of the Celtic people, he explained Christianity in a way that made sense to the Irish and was thus very successful in converting the natives.
St. Patrick taught the Irish about the Holy Trinity using the shamrock. Three leaves to one shamrock like three persons in one God — God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
St Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer (shortened version)
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

St Patrick’s Mini Market - Sunday 17th March
In partnership with the parish community, we will be holding a St Patrick’s Mini Market on Sunday 17th March, St Patrick’s Day. The classes have been organising items to sell at the market stalls, including preserves, cakes and sweets, craft, plant and produce. There will be a barbecue, coffee van, hot potatoes, a performance from the choir and St Brendan Shaw College students. Mini Vinnie students will be organising a jelly bean guessing competition, and a raffle with tickets being sold each morning before school and through the parish. Funds raised by the Mini Market will go towards our mission and outreach initiatives in the community to support those in need.
St Patrick's Feast Activity Day - Friday 22nd March
As St Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday this year, we will hold our Activity Day for the students on Friday 22nd March. Students are encouraged to wear green items. We will also have green treats for sale at recess for $2 each with the proceeds going to Caritas. We will have a free sausage sizzle for lunch.
If any families can donate some green treats (cupcakes and other snack-size items) that we can sell on the day it would be greatly appreciated. Any donated food items must have an ingredients list attached. Please notify the office by Friday 15 March if you can help out.

To celebrate our patron saint, St Patrick, we are hosting a St Patrick’s Day Mini Makers’ Market in the Church grounds between 10.00am -2.00pm.
Our stalls will include craft, cakes and sweets, preserves, plants and produce. Classes have been nominated to a stall and are working hard on organising and preparing items to sell.
