Mother’s Day Celebrations
Thank you to all our wonderful mums, step mums, carers, nans, aunts, sisters, and significant ladies for coming to our Mother’s Day afternoon. Thank you to the following for coming together to make our Mother’s Day Celebration an amazing afternoon:
- Carley Padman, for putting together the Mother’s Day gift which was given out on our Mother’s Day Celebration.
- Staff who brought a plate of food to share with our special ladies in the afternoon.
- Catherine Dunn for organising our liturgy.
- Teachers who worked with students in creating a treasured gift for mums for Mother’s Day and organising an activity for our special afternoon.
- All staff for working together to make this special event happen.
Preservation of Religious Freedom in Australian Catholic Schools
Currently, protections exist in the commonwealth which allows faith based schools to discriminate with regard to students and staff in order to maintain the integrity of their religious mission and purpose. The Albanese government is proposing to remove the protections contained in section 38 of the SDA, effectively leaving our schools with no legal protections to ensure mission alignment and regard to what is being witnessed or taught in our schools. The proposed legislation will severely impact the Catholic School’s ability to remain Catholic.
We as a Catholic school employ staff, and enrol students who are non catholic on the basis that we are a Catholic school and teach the tenets, beliefs and doctrines of our faith to those who seek Catholic education. Staff are not forced to work in Catholic education, and families are not forced to enrol their children in our Catholic schools. People will seek employment, or enrolment elsewhere if it does not align with their personal views. His Grace, Archbishop Julian Porteous and Catholic Education Tasmania have written to the prime minister Anthony Albanese to ask that these laws are not passed and allow Catholic Schools to enact a Religious Freedom Law and preserve the rights and freedoms to uphold beliefs and practice. See attached letter from His Grace Archbishop Julian Porteous.

We understand that there are times when families require information/forms to be sent and completed by your child's class teacher or specialist teachers. When sending these items through we recommend using the school email address stpatslat@catholic.tas.edu.au this address is looked after by both the administration and leadership teams and will be forwarded to the staff member required.
The 2024 St. Patrick’s Cross Country will take place on Friday 24th May for all students in Prep to Year 6. We would love for all parents to come along and spectate!
The course will be conducted at St.Patrick’s, with students commencing next to the basketball court and finishing on the school oval. Each year level will complete a specially designed course of varied lengths for their year level group.
Please be mindful when walking near or through the course that you are not walking in front of a competitor.
Please ensure that on the day your child wears their P.E uniform. A plain house-coloured shirt can be worn in place of the School P.E. Shirt. Students should bring the following: Full Water Bottle, Healthy Lunch, and Soft Shell Jacket.
Parents are welcome to take their child/children when their race is completed, but we ask that you advise their class teacher.
Currently, we have quite a few sports teams who have started training (soccer/basketball/netball) after school. As this is after hours it is a requirement that students are supervised by their parents at these trainings. Families who have children at training sessions and have siblings who are not involved in training are asked to please keep their child/ren off the school playground. After School Care operates from the school hall every day and they are unable to let the ASC children out to play on the playground equipment that is being used by students who are not attending ASC. Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.
Kindergarten enrolment applications for 2025 will be closing shortly. Existing families with siblings born in 2020, please ensure you have submitted an enrolment form to the office. Families and new enrolment will be notified of the interview timeline in the coming weeks.

This year the Devonport Primary School Basketball Tournament will be held from Friday 5th - Sunday 7th July. The age groups for this competition are 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 for girls and boys. Games may be rostered on Friday night (5th July) through to the finals on Sunday afternoon (7th July) *Please note this is the beginning of the Term 2 school holidays. Games may be played in Devonport, East Devonport and Ulverstone over this weekend.
The team registration cost will be covered by the school and if your child is not currently registered with Basketball Tasmania there will be a cost of $10.00 per child. (link for payment to follow on confirmation of teams). There will be no cost for players or spectators for entry to the tournament.
Our participation in this tournament will rely on parent commitment as parents will be required to coach, manage, complete bench and canteen duty over the weekend. Each team will be required to nominate a coach, manager, and referee to register a team. All coaches and managers will need to hold a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
A parent roster for bench duty (two volunteers for each game) will be organised for participating teams and you will be rostered on with someone that has had previous experience in completing this duty. Once coaches and team managers are nominated, trainings for this tournament can be arranged.
If your child is interested in playing and you can support this commitment, please complete the registration form below by Monday, 3rd June. No late registrations will be accepted.
