Catholic Education Week - ‘Joyful in hope, faithful in prayer’
Last week, St Patrick's celebrated Catholic Education Week, with other Catholic schools across our system. Our year 6 students participated in the Mass at St Brendan Shaw Devonport, followed by a barbecue. Thank you to our students who represented our school well. We also celebrated 25 years of service with Melissa Marshall and Ann Jak. We thank them for their service to St Patrick's and Catholic Education Tasmania.
St Patrick’s Response to Archbishop’s Charter 2024 - 2027
The Charter for Catholic Schools outlines the pastoral priorities of the Archbishop which inspire and guide the work of Catholic Schools. The Archbishop’s Charter for Catholic Schools draws inspiration from the Sacred Scriptures and key Church documents. It guides the operation, self evaluation and strategic planning in Catholic schools in Tasmania. Last year, staff and the school board participated in a survey to respond to the Archbishop’s Charter. We revised our response around the four domains: Catholic Identity, Learning, Leadership and Mission. Bullying No Way Week 12th - 18th August
This week is Bullying No Way Week.
Our response to reports of bullying can be much more effective when parents and carers report bullying, so we can make efforts to respond to it. If your child reports that bullying is occurring at school, you should let me or Deputy Kurt Atkins know about the situation. We will work with you and your child to resolve the situation, and will also work with the other student/s and their parents. Parents and carers have a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Learn what bullying is and what it is not. Understanding the definition of bullying is the first step in talking about how to prevent and respond to bullying with your child. Retrieved from Bullying No Way
Invitation to Attend Mass at St Patrick’s Catholic Church Latrobe
Mass Times
Wednesday Mass: 9:30 a.m. Latrobe
Sunday Mass: 5:00 p.m. Latrobe
Since we are all called to share in this “Bread of Life”, anyone is welcome to attend Mass at a Roman Catholic Church, and if you so choose, take steps towards becoming a Catholic. Church attendance is both obligatory and beneficial; public worship allows everyone to come together to strengthen our faith and community. It helps you to lead a Christ centred life. When this happens, you may notice changes in your life. Many have experienced an unbelievable shifting of life circumstances, while others have found the strength and grace to move forward in spite of obstacles and struggles. If you haven’t been to church for a while or have never been; you are welcome to “Come and See” John 1:46.
In the Roman Catholic Church, we have what are called sacraments. There are seven of which the first is baptism. You can talk to our Parish Priest, Father Sunil or Father Chatty to learn more about the sacraments. They are usually available before or after Mass or you can even call a Parish and make an appointment. It’s important to point out that in order to receive Holy Communion, an individual had to have been baptised and properly prepared. It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but don’t be discouraged. It is also important to Pray. We do this by praising God and asking him for guidance in all we do. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:78.
What We Do In Our School
Mr David Broos - Utility Officer
Mr Broos looks after the maintenance of the buildings and grounds in our school. Mr Broos builds, repairs and moves school furniture, fixes plumbing, paints offices and rooms and creates amazing murals. He maintains the staff car park, retrieves balls from roof tops, fixes locks and gates. He plants trees and bushes and mows the grounds. He repairs sporting equipment such as the soccer goals. He builds props for events and even builds cubby houses. What would we do without Mr Broos?
Mrs Mel Carter - Librarian
Mrs Carter organises our library and runs library sessions with each class where students borrow books. She buys, covers and catalogues books and resources that come into the school. Mrs Carter organises the book fair during Book Week and creates amazing displays in the library. She runs our Home Reader Program and checks the books out each morning for our students. Mrs Carter also looks after our IT equipment, assists the business manager and helps out in the front office occasionally. We thank Mrs Carter for her work in the library and across the school.
Have a great week

This term our science focus was Physical Science. We explored the way objects move and investigated changes in motion to push and pull forces. Students designed and made a toy that can be pushed or pulled out of recycled materials. As you can see from the photos, students enjoyed this hands-on construction activity.
We have a large number of books and resources that are required to be catalogued in the library, to allow this to happen there will be no library book borrowing next week (Monday 26th - Friday 30th). We will return to borrowing the following Monday 2nd September (week 7).
Home Readers will not be affected students will still be able to borrow Home Readers each morning.
Congratulations to the following students who have received Student of the Week.

Could parents please refamiliarise themselves with our Uniform and Hair & Jewellery policies. We have noticed a decline in students wearing the correct uniform pieces that are outlined in our school policies. If for any reason your child is unable to wear their uniform please write a note in their diary.

The Devonport Playhouse is a great space to visit on the weekdays that your local Launch into Learning (or Little Treasures/Inquiring Minds/Little Sprouts/Jiloa Juniors/Little Learners/Bright Horizons/Little Joeys) session isn’t happening. We are now open from 9:15am – 12pm Monday to Thursday mornings. Follow us on Facebook to find out more.
Research shows that the first five years of a child’s life are critical for their development. The experiences they have can shape who they become as an adult. We realise the importance of these years and ensure that our SETUP sessions are full of play-based activities that allow children to investigate and learn in their own way.
Lots of time spent playing, talking, listening and interacting with you helps your child learn the skills they need for life. These skills include communicating, thinking, solving problems, moving and being with other people and children. That’s why our SETUP sessions allow children time for provocative play and exploring both on their own and with other children. We do offer arts and crafts, storytime, interactive games and activities as well as outside play.
Our sessions run every Friday from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m during school terms. Please bring a piece of fruit, a hat and drink bottle. Tea and coffee is provided for parents/carers. We hope to see you there!
